Gardega Art Show

Tomorrow I fly to Palm Beach for my August 27th show. I have completed 10 watercolors and 10 oils. Two of the oils have sold (one stolen) and 8 of the watercolors are coming with me for show so there is a total of 16 pieces. My goal was 10 to 15 pieces for the show as I only had three weeks to complete. Feels good to be finished save some minor last minute details.

AUGUST 2016 PODCAST BY GARDEGA

IN WHICH I MUMBLE ABOUT, ART, COLOR THEORY, ARTISTS WHO CAN NEITHER DRAW NOR PAINT, THE ISMS AND TRAINING FOR THE NYC MARATHON...

Roald Dahl's writing studio

This is photo of one of my favorite writers, Roald Dahl. This is how he worked and created his genius. A piece of wood laid across an armchair, no typewriter just a pad and pen. As an artist you must learn to create with what is at hand, if you wait until the environment is perfect to your liking then you may never really start. Some artists keep there work space as simple as possible straight through their lives. I heard that Stephen King built an amazing studio to write in but had to go back to his old cramped office because he couldn't work in the new space. My bottom line is this--THE MORE ROOM THE BETTER. I never have enough room to spread my creative wings. canvases can be quite large, typing paper is always the same manageable size.

Marathon Training

I won the lottery to run in The NYC Marathon in early Nov. My training has begun, including diet. Lots of vitamins and amino acids and smoothies. Tomorrow I am running two loops of Central Park. 13.2 miles. Aside from a trick knee which occasionally goes south I should be able to finish the thing in November 6th. I think it is the 6th, I haven't even double checked...the 5th or the 6th...I even gave up alcohol which was not too hard, I am trying to quit my morning Red Bull/ caffeine routine now, Caffeine is a tough one to kick. I plan on that next.

Old Palettes

There comes a point where my palettes lose all usefulness, I can no longer find room on this one. This is usually when I give them away. Sometimes I paint on top of them...

When I studied with Odd Nerdrum in Norway I noticed he used foam core for his palettes. I have used everything as a palette in a pinch, I often use tin foil over cardboard for my mural palettes.

Gardega Art Show Update

Six paintings in various stages of finish. I have 7 out of 10 watercolors done as well. Five more oils to complete after these are done.

Met Photos by gardega

I practically live in The Met Museum. I constantly sketch and take photos of things in paintings that interest me, sometimes I only use a small part of a painting as a jumping of point for inspiration or idea. Sometimes I ill put away for years and then find it in my files and use it for something. Here are some random things that interested me at the museum.
