The bedbugs of modernism: art lesson by gardega

Young art student! Be awake and find the right heroes..look not to rothko or jasper johns or dekooning...steer free of abstraction, of the 60's, of falsehoods and slipshod craftsmanship. Take your cue from the old masters and timeless beauty.  The art bed you make is the one you will lie in and the bedbugs of modernism will chew away at the toes of your soul while you sleep. Although, I am the most modern of artists, my tools and my heart are from the past. Modernism has surgically removed the heart from itself (as if heart is only a vestigial organ) In the end is all Shadows without substance and sugar without vitamins. Pray at the alter of genius and you will learn much in art. Looking back on my art school days I mostly have memories of fools and gimps (kids pulling out there own hair and gluing it to canvases..other kids trying to paint like german expressionists (the redheaded stepchild of all art movements) You are only as good as your eye, your taste. I was born with a love for rembrandt and leonardo the masters..It will serve you well to study them and most of all study nature..Leonardos guide was nature, not another artist.
